Piano Lessons

Children, Teens and Adults

Lessons are designed to encourage a sense of exploration and play, with lively engagement being key across all ages and stages of a child’s development. Aural, rhythm, improvisation and reading skills are introduced in an imaginative way, with fun challenges presented to reinforce concepts being studied.

Traditional piano repertoire sits comfortably alongside favourite pop songs to provide an exciting encounter of different music styles, whilst getting creative with chords and patterns helps to develop thinking skills and boldness in trying out new ideas. With the freedom to explore pieces both on and off the written page, students experience a rewarding and multi-skilled adventure, creating curious and confident learners.

Exam grades: ABRSM / Trinity / LCM. Taking exam grades is an entirely optional choice. Whilst not for everyone, exams can serve to motivate and reward dedication for those wishing to pursue this particular pathway. This aspect is discussed as lessons progress.

Children

By the time your child has entered this phase in their life, they are beginning to discern what they like, what’s cool for them and what will motivate them enough to keep hitting those keys in between lessons. Repertoire needs to be both fun and interesting, challenging enough but still within reach - presenting the right balance will help ensure they never stay away from their instrument for too long, no matter how busy they get.

Exploring a wide range of music to include pop, jazz & blues, mixed in with innovative ways to tackle technical playing aspects, will ensure music stays meaningful and provide a glimpse into a broad musical landscape.

Learning to play an instrument provides respite from the noise of everyday life, a totally absorbing activity that will positively grow and develop the whole person. Relevant, enjoyable, challenging and fun - this is key to keeping the teen on board, helping them discover their own individual voice and style through spending time at the piano.

Exam grades: ABRSM and Trinity. Sitting for an exam grade is entirely an optional choice. Exams can serve as a good motivator and a reward for dedication and hard work, and this aspect will be discussed as lessons progress.
