As a Teacher
A graduate of Leeds Conservatoire (formerly City of Leeds College of Music), Heather Carmel is a highly trained and experienced teacher and performer. She runs a busy private practice tutoring children, teenagers and adults in both piano and voice, developing technique, individual style and repertoire, building portfolios in preparation for auditions, performances and graded music exams. Heather also works as a peripatetic piano and singing teacher within schools and music establishments, as well as leading singing groups. She works with singers from beginners to advance level developing and exploring the voice, whether simply for the sheer love of singing, keeping mind and body fit and healthy, or training those pushing ahead at an advanced level and beyond. Piano lessons involve a broad study of all that this wonderful instrument has to offer, bringing the subject of music to life in a multitude of ways, designed to keep piano students continuously inspired and engaged.
Heather has taught in Stage, Drama & Music schools (including Sylvia Young, East 15, and Theatretrain), VocalTech (London) and has worked extensively in Further and Higher education. She has taught GCSE and A-Level music, as well as a wide range of subjects on courses covering piano & vocal skills, repertoire, stage presentation & performance projects, music theory and songwriting. As Head Of Department, her roles involved composing original music for in-house productions and musical director for shows. Heather has worked in music therapy for a number of years and continues to be passionate about providing music classes for those with special needs.
As a Performer
Heather built a career as a professional singer working in London performing at concert venues, theatres, top hotels, festivals, Royal Galas and star-studded charity events, as well as regular UK and international gigs, tours, radio and TV appearances. Piano/Vocal work includes residencies in London and Europe, along with numerous guest appearances on cruise liners, allowing her to keep a love of both music and travel alive & kicking.
